Ancestry DNA Results: I'm A Mutt!
You guysss! Guess what finally came in?! My Ancestry DNA results! If you follow my Instagram, you know how impatiently I had been waiting for these! I posted my results on my Insta last week, but was holding off on blogging about it because I'd been waiting on the release of Ancestry's new feature: DNA Traits, which released this week!
Ok so without further due, drum roll please...

So basically, it turned out to be very much what I suspected: I am Mestiza AF. The bulk of me is 37% Native American, 29% Spaniard and 21% Portuguese. The remaining 13% of me is comprised of small percentages from France, Nigeria, Mali, Basque, Ireland, Scotland, England and others. See below for exact breakdown! 🦄
I have to say though, I'm very shocked to have zero Middle Eastern blood in me! I really really thought I'd have at least a little something in there as there is a lot of Middle Eastern influence in Mexico and people always think I'm Middle Eastern. Definitely surprised. 🤷♀️ But it's pretty cool to know that I am as international as I *feel* haha. 💃 And it was also cool to see the exact parts of Mexico where my ancestors are originally from. I only ever knew about one side but never met the other side, so that was news to me! I do wish AncestryDNA would pinpoint the exact indigenous tribes I belong to, but a quick Google search of tribes from those regions in Mexico gave me a good idea.
What do you guys think? Interesting, no? All this information just from spitting in a tube! 🤯 #cray

On top of all this, Ancestry just revealed their new awesome feature: Ancestry TRAITS. It's a fun $10 upgrade that allows them to see what your DNA reveals about your physical traits. Do you have the genes for curly or straight hair? Blue or brown eyes? Are you likely to enjoy the taste of cilantro? Is asparagus likely to make your pee smell? So much cool information that links you and your earlobes to your ancestors! I definitely upgraded my account and I am still exploring. Below are a few examples of why my genes revealed about me. All accurate so far!
Yes! I have light eyes! Hazel-green to be exact. The intensity of the green or brown depends on the day. I had no idea that DNA could disclose eye color and pattern information. Very cool!
△ So my sweet tooth is a genetic hand-me-down.
△ Yes! My pee never smells when I eat asparagus! How did it know that?! LOL. I always hear people say that this happens to them but I never knew that it's a DNA thing. Crazy!
Overall, I am so SO impressed with Ancestry and the amazing science behind all of this! What an amazing resource for people like me. My only regret is not having done this on my grandmother before she passed. It would have been so cool to see what was passed down to her and what ethnic mix she possessed. It would have also helped, by process of elimination, to figure out what side gave me what!
